Nationwide 5% Cashback

If you’re tired of feeling like your supermarket bill is getting bigger every week, then Nationwide’s latest offer (Nationwide 5% Cashback) might be just what you need. The building society is giving its current account members the chance to earn up to £10 a month in cashback when they shop at a wide range of supermarkets and convenience stores.

What is Cashback

Cashback is a type of reward that you can receive when you make a purchase. It means that you get back a certain percentage of the money you spent on a product or service. For example, if you buy something for £100 with a 5% cashback offer, you will get £5 back. Cashback is often offered by banks, credit card companies, and online retailers as an incentive to use their products or services. It can be given in the form of money credited to your account or a voucher that you can use for future purchases.

How to Get Your Nationwide 5% Cashback

From 9 February up to 30 April 2023, you can earn 5% cashback on your shopping up to £10 each calendar month by using your Nationwide debit card at any of a wide range of supermarkets and convenience stores. You don’t need to register or opt-in. If you have a joint bank account, you can earn £10 each with both your cards. To get the maximum £10 a month, you’ll need to spend £200 in a calendar month with your debit card.

When You’ll Get Your Nationwide 5% Cashback

You’ll get the money back in your account within 6 weeks of the end of each calendar month. Cashback earned in February will be paid by 11 April, the cashback earned in March will be paid by 12 May, and cashback earned in April will be paid by 12 June.

Which Payments Can Earn Cashback

Just start paying with your Nationwide debit card, including contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. However, you won’t earn any cashback on payments made through PayPal, other third-party providers or by Direct Debit, and you won’t get cashback on payments made outside the UK.

Which Accounts Can Earn Cashback

You’ll automatically get cashback if you have a FlexPlus, FlexDirect, FlexAccount, FlexBasic, FlexStudent or FlexGraduate account. You can’t get cashback with the FlexOne children’s account.

Can New Accounts Receive Nationwide 5% Cashback?

New members opening a current account during the promotional period can also earn cashback. The qualifying accounts are:

  • FlexPlus: A packaged account that offers a range of benefits including worldwide family travel insurance, family mobile phone insurance, UK and European breakdown cover and commission-free usage abroad. It costs £13 per month.
  • FlexDirect: An online account that pays a competitive 5% AER interest and provides an interest-free overdraft for the first 12 months.
  • FlexAccount: An everyday bank account that allows members to bank online and in branches for free.

Where You Can Earn Cashback

You can earn 5% cashback however you like to shop – in-store, online, or over the phone for home delivery. You just need to shop at a qualifying store. A store qualifies for cashback based on how it’s registered with VISA. The list of qualifying stores may vary from time to time, and not all supermarket locations in a chain may qualify. Some of the stores are likely to qualify for cashback include Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Lidl, Waitrose, the Co-op and Iceland.

It’s worth noting that you won’t earn cashback on things you buy at petrol stations, including fuel and kiosks, service station stores, supermarket concessions, telecoms and financial services providers (including those owned by supermarkets), in-store services at supermarkets (e.g. supermarket cafés or opticians), specialist independent stores (e.g. bakeries and butchers), wholesale stores, or delivery companies, like Deliveroo.

So, if you’re a Nationwide current account holder, take advantage of this offer to get a little money back on your supermarket spending. Just remember to use your Nationwide debit card at a qualifying store, and you could earn up to £10 a month in cashback. You can read more about that on the website of Nationwide.
